PAEDIATRIC OSTEOPATHY IS A FORM OF MANUAL MEDICINE WHICH RECOGNISES THE IMPORTANT LINK BETWEEN THE STRUCTURE OF THE BODY AND THE WAY IT FUNCTIONS.

Osteopaths in Menai focus on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit. Using skilled evaluation, diagnosis and a wide range of hands-on techniques, Menai osteopaths can identify important types of dysfunction in your body. Menai Osteopathic treatment uses techniques such as stretching and massage for general treatment of the soft tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments) along with mobilisation of specific joints and soft tissues to create movement. Other osteopathic techniques include visceral work, dry needling, cranial osteopathy and counter-strain designed to place a joint or muscle in a position of ease to minimise pain.

Osteopathy for Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a 40 week process. During this process, the body must undergo a variety of changes to accomodate the growing baby inside of you. As bub gets bigger, other parts of the body take the pressure. This can lead to pressure pushing up into the thoracic ribcage (difficulty taking deep breaths or becoming breathless with little exercise) or pushing down onto the bladder and pelvic floor (hence why you need to go to the toilet so much).

Osteopathy can assist with freeing up muscle tension and joint dysfunction associated with pregnancy. If yo uare pregnant and are starying to get any of the symptoms below, give us a call and find out how we can help guide you through this process with hands on treatment.

We normally see pregnancy patients suffering or dealing with;

  • Back Pain
  • Sciatic Pain
  • Pubic Symphysis and Groin Pain
  • Rib and Mid Back Pain
  • Coccyx Pain
  • Hip and Gluteal Pain
  • Heartburn and Indigestion
  • Birth Preparation
Also known as Paediatric Osteopathy. Alsthough babies and children can be viewed as ‘mini adults’, their bodies are completely different. As they are different, they require a different from of treatment. This is where Paediatric Osteopathy comes into play. Paediatric Osteopathy uses indirect gentle techniques to help guide the body to heal. There is no “manipulation or adjustments’ as babies haven’t developed joints yet. During the birthing process, it is common for babies to undergo a vaccuum or forceps delivery. This pressure can alter the babies skull and/or develop flat spots depending on how much tummy time they’re getting. Paediatric Osteopathy helps to guide the development of your babies skull and skeletal system as well as assisting in changes with digestion. This can create symptoms including colic and reflux. And for those who have a colic and reflux baby, you know it is not an easy adventure you are on.

What to expect in your first Paediatric Osteopathic session at KT Health & Wellness

At your first session, your Menai Osteopath will take your case history to establish when your pain first started, what your symptoms and concerns are and how they may have changed over time, the treatments (if any) you have received to date, and the impact your pain may be having on your life.
After learning of the history of your pain, your practitioner will carry out a hands-on examination, which comprises of various tests of the spine, nervous system, muscles and joints.
After identifying the underlying cause/s (which may or may not require referral for an x-ray, C-T scan or MRI), your practitioner will set some treatment goals, with the ultimate goal being to restore maximal, pain-free movement to your muscles and joints.
The osteopathy treatment techniques your Menai Osteopath will use in fulfilling this goal include:

  • Spinal manipulation (Also known as an ‘adjustment’)
  • Joint Mobilisation
  • Muscle energy technique (MET)
  • Soft tissue /massage
  • Counterstrain
  • Balanced ligamentous tension (BLT)
