Welcome to KT. My name is Luke and I am the owner of KT Health & Wellness.

I wanted to take a moment to congratulate you on starting your pilates journey with us.

Your induction/fundamentals session should already be booked and we can’t wait to teach you all the benefits that Reformer Pilates has to offer.

During your fundamentals session, you will be introduced to your “Core Activation Zone”.

You will also be taken through Reformer Basics including:

  • How to modify or adjust the reformer
  • How to get on and off the reformer safely
  • How to get into reformer positions and get out of reformer positions

I have also attached videos within the links above that you can watch at your convenience.

Introduction to the Core Activation Zone (CAZ)

The Core Activation Zone is our powerhouse in Reformer Pilates. Prior to activating this zone, we need to be aware of what “Neutral Spine” is. This places the body in the ideal position to activate our CAZ. Once we have found neutral, we can then engage:

  • Ribs & Diaphragm
  • Pelvic Floor
  • Transverse Abdominus

Then put it all together into a sequence that we can always reference whenever the instructor says “engage your CAZ, or engage your core”

The Reformer & Its Components

At KT Health & Wellness, we use the Pilates Equip Studio Evolution Reformer, chosen to accommodate a diverse clientele, including elderly, injured individuals, athletes, and taller clients. The traditional reformers are higher off the ground, offering more stability for heavier clients and easier access for those with mobility issues. These reformers are ideal for advanced exercises, offering stronger spring resistance and adjustable pulley heights to prevent neck strain during exercises. Reformer Hygiene is crucial, and all clients must wear grip socks to prevent slipping. After each class, reformers and their components (e.g., carriage, headrest, footbar) are cleaned using WOW wipes. Instructors provide wipes at the end of class and guide clients to wipe down their equipment.

How To Get On & Off The Reformer Safely

At KT Health & Wellness, safety is paramount. When getting on and off the Reformer, ensure that the appropriate spring is attached. Always approach from the side. Use the footbar when you can and always keep 3 points of contact on stable surfaces (eg 1 hand on footbar and both feet on the ground). If getting on the reformer, 2 hands on foot bar and 1 foot on ground etc).

Following these sues and processes ensures your safety during ALL reformer pilates sessions at KT. If you need any help, please don’t ever feel bad or arkward asking. Our Instructors are there to assist you.

Getting Into Reformer Positions
